About the test

The VB.NET online test assesses knowledge of programming in the VB.NET language and commonly used parts of the .NET framework class library. This test requires solving live coding problems in VB.NET.

The assessment includes work-sample tasks such as:

  • Using LINQ to query data sets.
  • Working with classes, objects, and interfaces to write reusable code.
  • Parsing XML files and extracting information from them.

A good VB.NET developer needs a solid understanding of the VB.NET programming language and the .NET framework class library to write robust and maintainable code.

Arrays

Implement the UniqueNames method. When passed two arrays of names, it will return an array containing the names that appear in either or both arrays. The returned array should have no duplicates.

For example, calling MergeNames.UniqueNames({'Ava', 'Emma', 'Olivia'}, {'Olivia', 'Sophia', 'Emma'}) should return an array containing Ava, Emma, Olivia, and Sophia in any order.

User interface contains two types of user input controls: TextInput, which accepts all characters and NumericInput, which accepts only digits.

Implement the class TextInput that contains:

  • Public sub Add(c As Char) - adds the given character to the current value
  • Public function GetValue() As String - returns the current value

Implement the class NumericInput that:

  • Inherits TextInput
  • Overrides the Add method so that each non-numeric character is ignored

For example, the following code should output "10":

Dim input As TextInput = New NumericInput()
input.Add(CChar("1"))
input.Add(CChar("a"))
input.Add(CChar("0"))
Console.WriteLine(input.GetValue())

Decorative quote

Simple, straight-forward technical testing

TestDome is simple, provides a reasonable (though not extensive) battery of tests to choose from, and doesn't take the candidate an inordinate amount of time. It also simulates working pressure with the time limits.
